Alpha

What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, low key, friendly and no question is too simple.
The course consists of twelve weekly sessions and one Saturday.
You don’t have to attend the whole course, just come along to the first session and see what you think!

Where is it held?

Alpha is held at St Mary’s Eaton Socon Church Hall on a Tuesday evening. We start at 7pm with a meal and finish at 9:30pm.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for Alpha, but if you wish to join us for the meal we do ask for a donation towards catering costs.

We look forward to meeting you.

Life Groups

Life Groups are St Mary’s house groups. Consisting of 5-12 people, these meet regularly in various homes during term time, either during the day or in the evenings. Because each group is small, Life Groups are the ideal place to spend time learning to live the Gospel whilst caring and sharing life together.

For more information about Life Groups and to join a group, please use the Get in Touch page  and this will be forwarded to the Life Group Co-ordinator.

6:15 Sharing Life through Learning

Held on the fourth Sunday evening of most months, sharing Life through Learning is an opportunity to go deeper into God’s Word. Led by either Dr Julie Robb or Rev’d Ray Porter, both with Theological Teaching and Training experience, come and explore Scripture’s hidden depths!

Starting at 6pm with refreshments, we usually finish by 7.30pm.

See below for the date of the next session.

Prayer

Prayer is the most important part of church life and is the foundation for every ministry and activity we do. We believe that through prayer, we see the power of God at work in lives, bringing strength and peace into whatever life situation we face.

Do join us for prayer:

  • After Sunday Services
  • Tuesday & Thursday Mornings in the Church 9-9.30am (see below)
  • in Life Groups

We also have a prayer team who will pray in confidence for any request.

If you would like to us to pray about anything for you or have a question about prayer, please use the Get in Touch page to share your prayer. This will then be forwarded to the Prayer Team.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care Team – Called to Care

As a Christian community, we are called to share Christ’s love and compassion with everyone, whether that is as a friendly ‘good neighbour’ or as part of a formal church team.

At times of need, crisis, or giving thanks, our dedicated Pastoral Care team is available to care and to serve our church family and our parish community. All of our team offer care that is confidential and respectful of a person’s situation and for anyone requiring more formal help or counselling services such as debt or marriage counselling, details of how to access such help can be provided.

In our Pastoral Care we follow the example of Jesus:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)”

The Pastoral Care Team offers care and assistance in the following ways:

Home Visits

  • the sick
  • the lonely
  • those housebound
  • listening
  • praying
  • just holding a hand
  • make a meal
  • befriending/friendship
Hospital Visiting

We make visits to people in Hospitals including Hinchingbrooke, Addenbrookes; Papworth and Bedford Hospitals.

Home Communion

Home Communion is taken to members who are unable to attend worship at church. We also provide home communion and services of worship for those in our local residential care homes.
