Outreach & Courses

In Matthew 28, Jesus said to his disciples:

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Outreach lies at the heart of our Christian faith, because it’s about communicating what God has done for us, to those around us. Current Outreach opportunities here include:

Alpha

The Alpha course is a low key, friendly and fun way of exploring what Christianity is all about. Consisting of a meal (great food!), a talk and discussion, many people have found it life changing.

The courses are run in the evenings (7pm - 9.30pm) with courses starting in January and September over 10 weeks.

The Alpha course is the perfect forum to raise questions and doubts about the Christian faith.

Baptism & Thanksgiving Preparation

One of the great privileges of being an Anglican church is that we receive many enquiries for baptism. To help people understand what these services are all about, we run a three part preparation course that talks about what it means to be a Christian in today’s world, together with exploring what both Baptism and Thanksgiving services involve.

Wedding Preparation

All couples getting married at St Mary’s attend the HTB Marriage Preparation Course that we run each year in the Spring. It covers topics including conflict, communication, keeping love alive, the in-laws etc!

Men’s Group

Started last summer, the aim of this group is to enable men to enjoy fellowship and build friendships with one another; to encourage one another in their relationship with God; and to offer practical help of various kinds where possible. Based around food (breakfasts and dinners), this group promises to be most enjoyable!!

School Assemblies

School Assemblies are great opportunities to engage with our two local primary schools Bushmead School and Crosshall Infants and Junior Schools. Here, the leadership is involved on a regular basis.

Community Groups

Many local community groups including pre-schools, nurseries and uniformed organisations invite us to speak at their meetings. These are occasions when we come into contact with other parts of our community.

Local Businesses

Through befriending and supporting the work of local businesses, e.g. the Post Office; Pubs; Butcher; Hairdresser; friendships are built where we can demonstrate our faith through word and action!
